Woodswoman

Anne LaBastille still lives in the Adirondacks. This is a memoir published in 1976. She has a Ph.D in Wildlife Ecology from Cornell University. This book fascinated me and I recommend it.
LaBastille thanks those who helped her in her quest to live this way and become an Adirondack Guide. (most of the people she thanks are men, woodsmen, and her ex husband--I mention this because she does as much as she possibly can on her own, but appreciates and accepts help.)
She overcomes many obstacles and never gives up on her dreams. I think that this book could be enjoyed back-to-back with Sharon Butala's book "The Perfection of the Morning."

These women are inspirational.  A little zen, a lot strong.
